The artist I found most inspiring was Stuart Palley. He is based in Los Angeles where he is creating a series called Terra Flamma. This series is a set of photos of the wildfires in southern California. Instead of just focusing and capturing the flames or firefighters working to put the flames out, he is capturing the entire landscape of the fire. He also is using long exposure to help empathize that wildfires, besides the fact that they can be deadly and destructive, have a great beauty to them.
Palley's work really inspired me because my brother is an inspiring firefighter and it is a little bit scary that that could be him at fires that strong and destructive. These photos really make you think about all that firefighters do to protect the people in their community and it really makes you appreciate them and respect them a lot more. Palley also showed me that fires sometimes seem scary to people, but they also have a special beauty to them that can make for beautiful pieces such as Palley's.
